A Winding Path to Purpose: How Torey Azure’s Journey Led Him to Tamarack Capital
At Tamarack, we often talk about investing with intention — choosing a path that aligns with your values, builds long-term wealth, and makes room for a meaningful life.
It’s only fitting that one of our own took that very route to get here.
Meet Torey Azure — civil engineer, creative founder, land development veteran, and now Partner and Head of Marketing at Tamarack Capital. His path wasn’t linear. But in many ways, that’s what makes him such a natural fit.
From Blueprints to Boardrooms
Torey’s early career began with engineering internships in the Tri-Cities, eventually leading to a full-time role with the Washington State Department of Transportation. He found the technical work meaningful, but the rigid, time-bound promotion structure didn’t align with his drive or creative instincts.
A pivotal moment came when he joined a land development firm in Seattle. There, he wasn’t just drawing plans — he was riding in trucks with developers, seeing deals take shape on the ground. “I got exposed to a network of people who thought differently than I was used to,” he recalls. That mindset shift lit a fire.
A Leap Into Leadership
After a return to the Tri-Cities and several years leading projects at JUB Engineers, Torey was passed over for a key promotion. It was the nudge he needed to strike out on his own — first co-founding an engineering firm, then gradually stepping into the world of development deals as a principal.
By 2012, Torey had weathered the Great Recession and a chaotic housing market collapse. That’s when he went all-in on a long-held passion: branding and design. He launched BrandCraft, a creative agency that grew from a 300-square-foot office into a multi-million dollar business with offices across the Northwest.
Scaling, Selling, and Starting Fresh (Again)
BrandCraft expanded through acquisitions and partnerships — including work with Tamarack co-founders Casey and Max — but as Torey approached a new chapter in life, he started asking deeper questions. What’s the next decade look like? What kind of legacy do I want to build?
Those questions brought him back to his roots in land and real assets — and ultimately, to Tamarack.
Why Tamarack?
For Torey, Tamarack represented more than a new title. It was a return to ownership. A way to channel decades of experience — from technical entitlement work to brand strategy — into something with long-term upside and tangible impact.
As Head of Marketing, Torey helps tell the story of how Tamarack operates, what we stand for, and why alternative investments deserve a larger place in the modern portfolio. But he also brings a deep operational lens, particularly around real estate development and navigating complex bureaucracies — an edge most marketers don’t have.
Building What Matters
At Tamarack, we’re not trying to be the flashiest name in finance. We’re building relationships, one deal and one conversation at a time. That’s why Torey fits right in. His story reflects many of the values we hold dear: resilience, long-term thinking, and the power of doing business with integrity.
Whether you’re reconnecting with Torey from his BrandCraft days or meeting him for the first time, we’re excited for you to get to know him. His journey is proof that even winding paths can lead somewhere purposeful.
